The route had to be amended for this race due to repairs being done to the Palisadoes strip. Instead of going to Port Royal (for our international readers', once the wickedest city in the world as portrayed in "Pirates of the Caribbean") the course now involved two (2) loops of the Harbour View to Downtown circuit. It was sweet tailwind east to west, but the headwind made the flat road race seem like a CAT 3 climb! Many breaks were attempted in the 1st 10 Km, but the move was made in the tailwind, and saw 3 riders getting away. They maintained their lead to the finish line as the pack tried desperately to close. In the final moments, Dean "Flowers" Martin from Performance May Pen led out the sprint, Stredwick went and was passed with 200M to go by Mario hall, also of Performance. With a nice move by Stredwick, he went Mario's wheel amd clipped him at the line, good riding.
The out-of-towners took it on Sunday, placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Strong riding by these 3 cyclists. The next race in this series will be on the 3rd of April, 2005. Sign on at 3.30 pm.
